Wall panelling – a trend that’s set to stay?

The trend for wall panelling really gained momentum last year, and this has continued into 2023. Like lots of interiors trends, it’s not for everyone, but here are some very good reasons to give it a try.

1) Wall panelling adds interest to a space.

Done properly, wall panelling is a simple and effective way to add warmth, depth, texture, and character to your space. I chose to install it in my hallway, because I wanted to add interest to an area that I cannot easily furnish because of the swing of my front door!

2) Wall panelling is affordable and easy to install.

There are plenty of panelling kits readily available in all good DIY stores, you just need a tape measure, spirit level, glue and a chop saw to cut the right lengths (or even better find someone who will cut the pieces to size for you!). I used the MDF mouldings from B&Q. Once the panels are in place, simply prime the wood and then paint your wall in the colour of your choice. I used Farrow & Ball ‘School House White’.

3) Wall panelling helps to protect your walls.

Not only does panelling help protect your walls, which can be especially useful in high traffic areas such as hallways, but it can be painted in a hardier finish such as an eggshell or satin, which is tougher and easier to clean.

4) Panelling can be used to either brighten or add contrast to your space.

The options are endless as shown here in these contrasting schemes!

What do you think?! I would love to hear your thoughts, and if you try out panelling in your own home, I would love to see the results!
